Triethanolamine (TEA) is a colorless to pale yellow, viscous liquid with a mild ammonia-like odor.
As a tertiary amine and triol (three hydroxyl groups), it exhibits properties of both alkali and alcohol.
TEA functions as a pH adjuster, emulsifier, surfactant, and corrosion inhibitor across cosmetic, pharmaceutical, textile, cement, and chemical industries.
